FIRE DOOR PROTECTION
Astroflame supply a range of products to complete or enhance the protection
provided by standard fire doors.
While
the door itself is designed to slow down the progress of a fire the
frame and fittings must also be upgraded to provide the proper level
of protection. Where vents of windows have been introduced into the
door these features must be upgraded. This applies to door furniture
too.
The objective off passive fire protection is the containment of fire
and toxic gases by inhibiting flame penetration, heat transfer and transport
of toxic gases from the site of a fire to other parts of a structure.
FIRE & SMOKE SEALS:
Even
where the door is supplied complete with appropriately protected vents
or windows the gaps around the door must be sealed to prevnet the spread of fire, smoke
or gases.
For
sealing the perimeter of fire doors we supply fire
seals based on intumescent materials that undergo a chemical
change when exposed to heat or flames. These become viscous then form
expanding bubbles that harden into a dense, heat insulating multi-cellular
char. The pressure exerted by the expanding seal must be sufficient
to seal off flames and gases but not so great that fire and rescue
services have great difficulty in opening doors while carrying out their
jobs.
To
provide fire and smoke protection together with acoustic and thermal
sealing we have developed QuadSeal
which has been certified to fulfill all relevant requirements of Approved
Documents B, E and M in a single seal.
CERTIFIRE APPROVAL:
All
seals are tested by an independent laboratory to ensure that they meet
the required BS or EN standards.
Our products also have UK approvals for -
British Building Regulations Approved Document B.
Lantac Building Control Approval
NHBC Type Approval.
FIRE DOOR PENETRATIONS:

Letterboxes,
grilles
& vents, glazing
and door
furniture compromise the function of a fire door unless
these fittings also have passive fire ptotection properties. We supply
products to maintain fire door integrity and also an approved safe fire
door retainer that releases automatically when fitted as
part of a fire alarm system.

DOOR DECORATION:
Burning
paint can flake off and spead fire and we sell a range of paints and
coatings for treating timber to prevent or reduce this risk arising.
The range includes a clear fire
varnish as well as a range of decorative flame
retardant paints in gloss, eggshell, matt and vinyl finishes.
